Ecological and evolutionary research is moving toward a culture of data sharing. This allows raw data sets to be re-purposed to address synthetic research questions across taxa. We use open data to explore how natural and human caused environmental variation produces broad spatial patterns at the genetic, phenotypic, and species levels of biodiversity.
